Streetscape Plan in Action

Under the leadership of Bill johnson, a Streetscape Plan was developed to deal with the continuing problem of live oaks overrunning The Reserve.  As a result of a study comparing The Reserve with similar neighborhoods, it was found that there were almost 6 times as many live oaks in The Reserve compared to other neighborhoods of the same size.

The Reserve 2016 Streetscape Plan was presented to Pelican Landing's Design Review Committee (DRC).  As the first community to make such a proposal, the well thought-out plan was accepted by the DRC and the proposal was put into action.

With the growth of the live oaks over the last 20 years, many of the mature trees were crowding out other trees and the root structure was creating havoc with numerous driveways in the community.  Removal of a number of trees was suggested by the plan and where appropriate, other species of trees were to be planted in their place.

With the approval of the plan, two projects have been completed to remove troublesome live oaks and replace them with other compatible species.  Specifically, Michelia alba magnolia, Stimpson's Stopper and Buttonwood trees have been planted where live oaks used to reside adding to the compatiblity and beauty of the entire community.
