On May 9, 2021, Mother's Day, at 4pm a bolt of lightning set a fire on the left side of Gator 4. The fire raged for about 15 minutes before the fire trucks arrived to spray it with water. The fire continued to spread in the direction of Capri. Some larger palms, live oaks and pine trees caught fire between the Gator 13th green and Gator 14th tee. Before the fire was brought under control, an ember blew across the 4th fairway and ignited a palm next to building 24460 -- the firemen doused that tree as well. At the same time, another fire broke out to the left of the fairway on Gator 2. Fortunately none of the fires created any damage to any structures.
