First Flag Raising Ceremony at The Reserve

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, following the recent installation of a flagpole in front of the pool area, The Reserve celebrated by holding a First Flag Raising Ceremony. The occasion was held to recognize our owners who are veterans: Sam Arneson, Andy Bodi, Santo Cimino, Julian Coles, Ron George, Phil Hollendoner, Joffrey Jones, Ed Keenan, Kevin Libby, Gardner McCormick, Jim Turbeson, Bill Vance, Joe Wolf and Ward Wood.

A special color guard was comprised of Sam Arneson (94), Bill Vance (91) and Andy Bodi (89). Sam, an actual World War II veteran, raised the flag for the first time with Bill and Andy at his side. The remaining nine veterans in attendance were recognized and stood in a line in front of the crowd of approximately 60 residents and guests as the flag was raised.

A special addition to the event was the presence of Mr. Bob Kelly, the head bagpiper of the Guns n Hoses Pipe n Drum Organization, who sounded “To the Colors” as the flag was raised. During a moment of silence for the fallen heroes he played “Amazing Grace.” It was a truly inspiring and moving event.
